Winner of the 2003 MPA Music in Advertising Awards at the Music Works seminar in Glasgow.
We were responsible for finding the relatively unknown Velvet Underground recording during the final stages of script writing, on behalf of Leagas Delaney.
The unusually natural recording complemented the overall sentiment of the script and offered stark contrast to the type of music usually synonymous with car campaigns.
Its unpolished, almost humble tone, appealed to the viewer in a very personal way, simultaneously offering a strong, recogniseable hook and lyrical proposition.
Following our negotiations with the respective rights owners, the agency shot the film with the track cleared for use.
Once on air both Leagas Delaney and Hyundai received a torrent of calls from the public asking for information on the track.
In response to this we were able to set up meetings between the agency and record company/publisher, resulting in the branding of the 'Best of the Velvet Underground' compilations that were subsequently released.
